Wine Country
Napa and Sonoma Counties are renowned for their premier wines. But within the warm Wine Country valleys, one of the state's most diverse in-line communities is growing as vigorously as the region's grape vines do each spring.
Santa Rosa is prime roller hockey territory, but the city also attracts aggressive skaters from miles around, thanks to its own in-line skate park. In the town of Sonoma, the Historic Vineyard Trail passes right through one of the oldest vineyards in the state.
Napa County's Silverado Trail (it's really a scenic, winding road) is the site of the Napa to Calistoga in-line marathon series. Dedicated skaters from San Francisco and across the states participate in this event put on by David Miles, founder of the California Outdoor Rollerskating Association (CORA).His well-organized bi- (if not tri-) annual Roll Through the Wine Country attracts professional and recreational skaters alike.
