Notes
The Channel Islands Harbor is bordered by a delightful concrete promenade that follows closely along the marina's edge. Nearby Harbor Boulevard has wide sidewalks on both sides, plus spacious bike lanes, and when you combine the promenade with the boulevard, you've got a great little loop route. Skate toward the harbor from the south end of Oxnard State Beach Park (described on page 299). The path veers inland next to a row of trees that don't quite hide a mobile home park, to meet the intersection where Channel Island Boulevard becomes Harbor Boulevard. Turn right at this intersection and skate south on the sidewalk for one block to reach the pedestrian crosswalk. Cross the street to reach the Channel Islands Harbor. Enjoy the waterfront view here, but take care not to get your wheels caught in the cracks of the decorative brick or you might find yourself plunging into the harbor waters. The promenade sidewalk ends at Mariner's Emporium. Turn right if you want to skate out to Harbor Boulevard's sidewalks or bike lanes to return to the north end of the harbor. Otherwise, reverse directions on the promenade. When you're ready for a break, you can stop at one of the lively eateries at the harbor's edge. If you time your visit right, you'll be treated to some live music while you get a good look at the vessels moored on the marina waters, and get to know some of the friendly folks who live in Ventura County.
