Directions
On Interstate 405 (the San Diego Freeway) outside of Westwood, take the Wilshire Boulevard exit heading northeast. After three blocks, turn left on Westwood Boulevard and follow it one block to take the first right onto Lindbrook Drive. Again after only one block, angle off Lindbrook to the left to get onto Hilgard Avenue. Look
for parking on Hilgard, which borders the east side of the UCLA campus, or go to one of the streets close by on the blocks just east
of Hilgard.
Notes
The UCLA campus offers an attractive setting with lots of paved walkways for cruising and some long, steep hills for road-savvy skaters. For a fun hour or two of exploration, plan to visit during a time when classes are not in session. Better yet, skate here after dark, when the whole campus is lit up, setting the beautiful structures aglow.
UCLA was once known as a hot spot for expert street skaters and hockey players, but the academic playground is now experiencing a crackdown by security staff. This is a trend emerging on campuses across the state, most likely due to liability and property damage concerns. While campus cops still allow students to commute on
in-lines between classes (barring excessive speed), they have started enforcing rules against skating in parking lots and parking structures. Street skaters can receive fines of $100 if caught grinding or jumping UCLA stairs, planters, or curbs.
