Notes
UC Irvine features rolling terrain that provides great fun for hill and thrill seekers. As with any college campus tour, make sure you visit at a time when classes are not in session. There will be fewer people around, and you will enjoy better access to all that the grounds have to offer. A bike path starts one block up Berkeley Avenue on the right, next to a big parking lot behind the Engineering Gateway building. In addition to that path, the bike lanes that line the Berkeley entrance road are quite decent for skating. For those who don't feel comfortable sharing the street with automobiles, a four-foot-wide sidewalk is available. Off to the left of Berkeley Avenue, a grass-bordered sidewalk enters a small grassy canyon that is worthy of exploration. Farther up the avenue, big sloping parking lots beckon with temptations of additional diversions. Make your own route. Access to the San Diego Creek Trail (see page 381) can be found at the intersections of University and Campus Drives.
