Directions
From U.S. 50 east of downtown Sacramento, the Sacramento State University exit is at Howe Avenue and Power Inn Road. Turn west at College Town Road, immediately after you get off the freeway (exiting U.S. 50 coming from the east, proceed straight ahead). Follow College Town to the southern border of the campus and stop at the information kiosk to check out the campus map posted on the window. You can park on campus for $1.75 (all quarters) at any lot that has a self-service coin drop box. Look for the bright yellow metal boxes mounted on poles in the lots.
Notes
Skaters are welcome on the shady Sacramento State University campus, which has enough asphalt and concrete to make for a fun weekend roll. Favorite spots for in-liners include the ramped sidewalk that leads up to the front entrance of the library, or the stairs of the neighboring building (great for skaters with jumping skills). The concrete benches in the library area add another aspect to stunt skating practice. Cruising around by the Physical Education area on the north end of the campus is a fun roll, but in some places, the pavement is in poor condition or the brick tiling makes skates vibrate uncomfortably. Grassy lawns and wide asphalt stretches in the middle of campus encourage beginners to take their first strokes in a relatively safe environment. During times of low use (try weekends, evenings, and spring or summer breaks), the huge parking lots are great for figure skating or just fooling around.
