Directions
Heading north on U.S. 101 from San Francisco, take the Central San Rafael exit and turn right onto Second Street. A block later, merge onto Third Street heading east. Third very soon becomes San Pedro Road. Follow San Pedro for four miles as it curves around the peninsula. Just as the road starts climbing toward the Peacock Gap Golf and Country Club, you'll see the entrance to the Loch Lomond neighborhood on the left. Park on the street. Heading south on U.S. 101 from Novato, take the Central San Rafael exit and turn left (east) onto Fourth Street, following it under the freeway. When Fourth dead-ends at the high school, go one block south to get onto Third Street, and follow the directions above to San Pedro Road and the skating location.
Notes
In many towns up and down California, some of the best recreational and hill skating around can be found in upscale or newer neighborhoods. That's the case here. Wide streets, little traffic, and rolling hills make this one of those ideal skating locations. The homes are attractive and well maintained, and residents are used to seeing skaters since the neighborhood is well known among local in-line enthusiasts. Do your best to control your speed here, which you'll want to do anyway since the terrain is hilly.
From some locations on a clear day, the view of the bay can be stunning, so stop and take some time to enjoy it. You can get a little higher for a better view by skating back out to San Pedro Road and up to the next development, Peacock Gap.
